• 168,000 people aged 60 plus in England participated in state-funded learning in 2007-08.
• Only 30 per cent of people aged 65 and over have ever used the internet.
• 21 per cent of those aged 75 plus in England are participating in formal volunteering at least once a month. The average for all ages is 26 per cent.
• People aged 65 and over spend on average three and three quarters hours a day watching TV (or a DVD or Video).
